HIDDEN HOUSE BYRON BAY

Nestled within a small acreage in the Byron Bay Hinterland, this residence embodies a quiet sense of luxury — completely concealed from the street and invisible from beyond the boundaries of its own landscape. Once within the site, the architecture reveals itself gradually, unfolding through a considered spatial sequence that transitions from east to west, and from public to private realms.

Designed for a young family of five, Hidden House Byron Bay is strategically positioned at the heart of the site to capture multiple outlooks and to forge a continuous dialogue with the surrounding garden. Conceived as a contemporary garden pavilion, the architecture is defined by a restrained material palette and a purity of form that allows the serenity and beauty of the natural setting to take precedence.

From the outset, the design intent was to blur the threshold between building and landscape—creating a framework that invites a rich variety of garden experiences to emerge. External spaces of differing scale and character are woven into the composition, fostering moments of connection and retreat.

The main living spaces are designed with a dual aspect, allowing the interior to function as a “garden room,” where landscape is both drawn in and allowed to spill outward. The gardens that embrace the house on either side are conceived for distinct uses, offering flexible outdoor environments that respond to changing seasons and prevailing weather conditions.
