BROKEN HEAD HOUSES
This multi-housing development comprises six luxury coastal residences embedded within rainforest and mature cypress pines at Broken Head, near Byron Bay. Designed to sit lightly within the landscape, the architecture adopts a restrained language, utilising a reduced palette of natural materials and muted tones that allow the built form to recede and foreground the surrounding environment and curated garden design.
Each dwelling is organised around a layered sequence of outdoor spaces, including private walled gardens with pools, rooftop sanctuaries and a verdant internal street that functions as both a circulation spine and shared landscape experience. While standardised in size, the homes achieve a sense of generosity through strong connections to landscape, abundant natural light, floor-to-ceiling glazing and a pared-back material palette. The design responds sensitively to a complex site, addressing ecological constraints, existing vegetation, access, drainage and bushfire requirements, while prioritising sustainability, durability and timeless material selection.
