HARVEST MOON BYRON BAY

Currently under construction, Harvest Moon is located on a modest 500sqm level site within a new residential precinct in Byron Bay. The project brief sought a cost-effective family home that balanced simplicity with a refined, contemporary aesthetic. On the wish list were four bedrooms, two living rooms, three bathrooms, study, covered entertaining zones, pool and double garage.

A key design challenge was the rear south-facing aspect, requiring a carefully considered response to maximise access to winter sunlight while maintaining privacy and amenity. The resulting design adopts a courtyard-inspired typology, drawing on southern European precedents to create a calm, inward-focused dwelling that is both functional and atmospheric.

Rendered masonry walls, elevated planter boxes and a deliberately articulated plan work together to choreograph the movement of light and shadow throughout the day, enriching the spatial experience. Living spaces are organised to foster a strong connection between indoors and out, with seamless transitions to the garden, pool and outdoor entertaining areas, reinforcing a relaxed coastal lifestyle and a close relationship to landscape.
